Our newest addition to the summer camp lineup gives campers the opportunity to learn the basics of computer engineering through the micro:bit mini-computer. Campers will learn how to program LED lights, work with sensors (compass, temperature, accelerometer), enable bluetooth controls, and program button inputs.
Beginner coders will start with an introduction to coding using Microsoft Makecode, a user-friendly, block-based programming language that lets kids create their own apps and games. Intermediate coders will use Python to bring their ideas to life.
Campers will then convert their micro:bits into a hand-held retro arcade console equipped with a 1.5” display screen. They’ll use Microsoft Makecode to create various mini-video games to play on their micro:bit consoles. Campers will keep their micro:bit and retro arcade kits at the end of camp to continue their engineering journey at home.
Each camper will bring home their own micro:bit mini-computer and micro:bit retro arcade kit.
